VIEW Right Time to Right-Size By Greg Lamp F armers continue to add acres and on-farm grain storage to handle ever-increasing yields. But all too often, propane tank sizes haven’t kept pace, so they risk running out of propane during peak grain-drying periods at harvest. “Waiting for propane delivery from a local supplier can slow your operation during harvest,” says Matt Kumm, CHS Propane marketing manager. “And fi lling up tanks more frequently can leave you more vulnerable to shifting prices in propane markets.” Adding larger on-farm propane storage tanks helps farmers take advantage of seasonal price patterns. And easier access assures them that propane will be there where and when they need it most. “Farmers and agribusinesses should examine their business and residential needs to determine whether increasing onsite propane storage is the right decision for their operations,” Kumm says. To learn more about how to right-size propane storage needs, fi nd the nearest Cenex® propane distributor at cenex.com. Whether you own or lease a propane storage tank, remember safety should always be the No. 1 priority, Kumm says.
