VIEW Water’s Edge Bob Bess connects Illinois producers to the world’s grain customers. As terminal manager for Sunrise Ag Service Co., he oversees movement of more than 12.5 million bushels of corn, soybeans and wheat annually from a new facility at Havana, Ill., that is part of an 18-month-old joint venture with CHS. CHS relies on Sunrise Ag and a network of other Illinois member companies to source grain from the production-rich region. The Havana ter -minal can store 1.2 million bushels of grain, plus handle and store crop nutrients and fuel. In its first year, the facility loaded 210 barges, primarily destined for the CHS export terminal at Myrtle Grove, La. Sunrise Ag General Manager Rich Vanderpool says the CHS relationship adds value for his producers by creating an efficient, competitive link to world markets. – Lani Jordan 16 January/February 2009 WWW.CHSINC.COM
