Special Day for South Dakota State University Family Even though Cody and Kasey Williams of Colman, S.D., have been avid Jackrabbit fans for years, they recently enjoyed their first football tailgating party on the South Dakota State University (SDSU) campus. “Joining friends and family as honored guests at the CHS tent was exciting,” says Kasey Williams. “So was going onto the fi eld at halftime. Our daughter was thrilled to have her photo taken with Jack, the school mascot.” All in all, the Williamses’ VIP experience as the CHS Farm Family of the Year Photo Contest winner for SDSU was “fantastic,” she says. This season’s popular photo contest was just one part of an exciting CHS collegiate sports partnership with 25 universities, designed to tell agriculture’s story to a broad audience and build pride in the cooperative system. Photos and votes were submitted on each school’s athletic Facebook page over a two-week period. Because many of his family members graduated from SDSU, Cody was a Jackrabbit fan long before he became a student there. Today, his aunt is the university’s provost and Kasey works in the online education department. Three generations are involved in the family’s registered Polled Hereford, soybean and corn operation. The family has played a large role in the community for By Annette Bertelsen many years, including active involvement with the Little International student ag expo at SDSU, the South Dakota Hereford Association, FFA and 4-H. “Last year, we lent a calf to a 7-year-old 4-H member. We helped her learn how to show cattle, and she was a winner,” Kasey says with pride. ■ SEE MORE To watch a video, go to chsinc.com/c.
