Safe, Satisfying Seeds
Food companies know that nothing satisfies quite like the crunch and crack of fresh, roasted-in-shell sunflower seeds. Many consumers, though, have food safety concerns about fresh-from-the-field raw products. Pasteurization is the industry’s best practice to alleviate this concern so consumers can enjoy sunflower seed snacks, worry-free.
CHS is taking the lead in pasteurization for sunflower seeds and other baking and snack ingredients. With the innovative Log5 system in its newly renovated Fargo, N.D., plant, CHS is the industry’s first sunflower processor to operate its own pasteurization process. This patented system controls air temperature, moisture content of heated air and air flow to obtain the perfect mix of effective treatment and product quality. No chemicals are used.
“Food companies around the world are increasingly concerned about food safety, but they need assurance that taste and texture won’t be compromised,” says Robert Deraas, president, CHS Sunflower. “We deliver that for them.”
