CHS Foundation Accepting Scholarship Applications

High school students are invited to apply for a $1,000 scholarship from the CHS Foundation, the major giving entity of CHS.

The foundation will award more than 300 scholarships, 100 of them to high school students pursuing agriculture-related degrees or STEM (science, technology, engineering, math) fields of study with an interest in agriculture or energy-related careers throughout the U.S. and Canada. The high school scholarship application deadline is April 1, 2016. For eligibility information and application forms, visit chsinc.com/stewardship.

CHS and the CHS Foundation also will award more than 200 scholarships to students enrolled at two- and four-year colleges. The scholarships are administered by more than 30 partnering universities. For more information and a list of partnering universities, visit chsinc.com/stewardship.

CHS Commits $200,000 to SDSU Research Facility

CHS has committed to contribute $200,000 toward the new Cow-Calf Education and Research Facility at South Dakota State University (SDSU) in Brookings, scheduled for completion in early 2016.

The facility will include a multipurpose building for maternity and livestock evaluation pens, a monoslope research building, and replicated pastures for grazing management research.

“The cattle industry is a large part of our business,” says Jerry Jueneman, sales and business development director, CHS Animal Nutrition. “We are proud to support this state-of-the-art facility that will benefit our rancher-owners and allow the next generation of cattle ranchers to gain practical experience.”

MKC and CHS to Build Second Rail Terminal in Kansas

In partnership with MKC, a full-service cooperative based at Moundridge, Kan., CHS has finalized plans to build and operate a grain terminal near Milan, Kan.

Site preparation will begin in early 2016. Located in Sumner County, the facility will include a high-speed shuttle loader with access to the BNSF rail line. On-site storage capacity will be approximately 7 million bushels.

“This project is part of our continued commitment to meet the needs of producers and to sustain the cooperative model for future generations,” says Dave Christiansen, MKC president and CEO. “The addition of speed and space with access to world markets will bring value to producers in the region and allow other cooperatives access to markets through a cooperative partner.”

Helping producers successfully grow their operations takes a strong cooperative system, says Lynden Johnson, executive vice president, CHS Country Operations. “We are proud to be partners with MKC, investing on behalf of our owners to meet the growing needs of area farmers.”

The facility will operate as Producer Ag, LLC, a limited liability company owned by CHS and MKC. The LLC also operates a high-speed shuttle loading facility in Canton, Kan., and is a member of Team Marketing Alliance, which will handle grain marketing services for the Sumner County facility.
