Seizing the Reins
Sometimes when opportunity knocks, the best thing to do is open the door. Eight years ago, that’s what Natalie Shaw did. As a new Montana State University graduate, she was hired by CHS nutrition and immediately moved to Oregon as an equine nutrition consultant charged with growing the CHS equine feed business.
“I’ve been riding horses my entire life, so the decision to move west was easy. now i get to live my passion every day,” she says.
Shaw works with horse owners across the Pacific northwest, providing feed formulations and nutrition advice to customers. “i consider myself part science nerd and part economics geek. i enjoy teaching our customers about the nutrition they need to keep their horses happy and healthy while getting great economic value.”
Shaw says she hopes to one day be an animal nutritionist and is pursuing a master’s degree in agriculture to help achieve that goal. She’s learned that wherever the trail may take her, saying “yes” can go a long way.
