ZERO PROBLEMS. Enhanced premium diesel solves common problems with big engines and small. By Annette Bertelsen T oday’s farms and ranches rely on bigger, more powerful equipment to handle grueling loads and heavy PTO demands. With the move to such high-tech, expensive equipment, producers often ask one engine to accomplish what three used to do. “Pretty soon you’re piling 1,000 hours or more a year on one engine. If it goes down at the wrong time … well, it just can’t,” says Todd Finzen, petroleum manager for Southeast Farmers Elevator, Elk Point, S.D. “Unfortunately, the diesel fuel injector tolerance is so minuscule in these engines that just one little speck of something on the injector gives you big problems. That’s why #2 diesel fuel doesn’t cut it anymore, on or off the road — and why you need a premium fuel that’s evolving to keep up with changing engine technologies,” Finzen says. Southeast Farmers Elevator is one of several cooperatives that brought concerns to their fuel partner, CHS, about performance challenges in some newer-series tractors. “We made a call to CHS and before long, we had three experts standing in our customer’s fi eld, ready to help,” Finzen recalls. “Soon we were testing a great new fuel formulation.” The upgraded formulation is available in Cenex® Ruby Fieldmaster® , a premium diesel fuel for off -road use, and Cenex Roadmaster XL® for on-road use. Both provide optimal performance for high-tech engines. Downtime Issues All participants in the test had experienced injector-fouling issues and downtime with a wide range of newer model equipment.
