Into the Night With dusk at hand, one last semi-truck gathers steam as it heads away from the CHS soybean crushing plant at Fairmont, Minn. When the plant opened in 2003, storing 1.25 million bushels seemed adequate. Not so today. CHS recently added 2 million bushels of storage in three corrugated steel bins next to the original concrete “eight-pack.” The extra year-round storage lets CHS buy beans when the market is favorable and hold them until they’re needed for refining into soy oil. •• LEARN MORE •• Go to www.chsinc.com/c to download this photo and others, and turn to page 25 for more on low-lin soybean contracting.
