Filling Up — Today and Tomorrow Every time you grab the pump handle to fuel up your car, truck or piece of equipment, you’re thinking about what’s next. You need to get to work. You need to get a crop in the ground. There are customers to serve. Kids to deliver to school. Tasks to accomplish. Places to go and people to see. At CHS, we start thinking about your future en-ergy needs long before you do. We ask ourselves where the crude oil we process into gasoline, diesel and other products will come from. You can learn about that phase of business in detail in this issue of C . We look at demographics to determine how our customers’ needs may be changing, particularly as those shifts affect our Cenex ® branded retail locations. We analyze the potential economic and operational impact of government regulations. And we prepare to invest. In the 10 years since CHS was created, we’ve invested $1.5 billion to help our customers stay in the energy driver’s seat. At the heart of those efforts are our refiner-ies —our wholly owned facility at Laurel, Mont., and National Cooperative Refinery Association in McPherson, Kan., where we are a nearly 75 percent owner. These refineries, supported by networks of crude oil and product pipelines and transportation terminals, are the foundation of our ability to meet your energy needs every day. But when it comes to preparing them to serve you better, it doesn’t happen overnight. Consider the just-completed coker unit at our Laurel refinery. Building the coker, which allows us to maximize efficiency when turning crude oil into gasoline, diesel fuel and other essential products, was an investment we explored for nearly two decades. When we decided to move ahead three years ago, we knew it would be the biggest invest-ment in CHS history and one that was vital to ad-dressing our customers’ needs for years to come. Given the unprecedented energy market volatility and supply challenges we’ve all experienced since then, we know we made the right decision to invest $400 million to provide you with 20 percent more gasoline and diesel for the long-term. Even as we bring the new coker online, we’re seeking more ways CHS can better meet your energy needs. While we distribute and market traditional refined fuels products, CHS is a leader in making renewable fuels available to consum-ers, trucking companies, construction companies and others throughout our trade area. And we’re growing our network of 1,600 Cenex-branded retail locations that supply both consumers and businesses with energy products and much more. Where are you going tomorrow? The possibili-ties are endless, but CHS will be there to fuel your way. John Johnson President and CEO CHS “We’ve invested $1.5 billion to help our customers stay in the energy driver’s seat.”
