Wagons West Traveling west more than 400 miles and back in time 150 years, volunteers recently took a real wagon train across Oregon to celebrate the state’s sesquicentennial. The 140 travelers in nine wagons endured turmoil, dust, a few rattlesnakes and a little historical fun over the five-week trip. The wagon train traveled along the historic Dalles Military Road through spectacular scenery of the Blue Mountains, John Day Fossil Beds, Painted Hills and Columbia River Gorge. CHS Nutrition sponsored the wagon train and donated Payback ® feeds for the 68 mules and horses that made the trek. Kent Hanson, manager of the CHS feed mill at Hermiston, Ore., traveled with the group for five days. — Caroline Snodgrass Your CHS Connection 17
